Why Read AGB?

Time is finite and infinitely valuable. How a person uses her time ultimately reflects back on that person. So why should anyone spend their time reading this blog?

ABG is Content-Focused
Most blogs are results-oriented: the focus of the author is usually on what they wish and expect to get from their blog (e.g. attention, advertising revenue, self-affirmation). My approach is fundamentally different: I strive to put forward the best content I possibly can, and I do it not to gain something, but out of a compelling desire in my nature to share and teach. I ‘ve been doing this my whole life, among friends and strangers alike. The blog also serves as a record of my ideas, should I become unable to share them for any reason.

ABG Deals with Important Things
I promise never to write insipid entries about my personal life (value my privacy too much). I write about things which I think are important from not only my own subjective perspective, but a more general and objective perspective as well.

The Author Shares His Unique Perspective
Most people’s opinions are built on flimsy foundations. People learn a socially acceptable position early in their life, then spend the rest of their life defending that position and dealing with problems in a way conforming with that position (liberal democrat, conservative Christian, progressive everybody-supporter, etc.).

I am a critical thinker. I believe that most people would consider me conservative though I eventually offend and repulse everyone with at least one of my views. More important than some arbitrary alignment in a fake liberal/conservative political dichotomy, though, is the fact that  my ideas are all thoughtful and reasoned; therefore, even if you disagree with an idea of mine (as you inevitably will), there is something to be gained from considering it.

Moreover, I don’t write to make people happy; it’s more important for me that I’m honest. Therefore I write things which others who are worried about appearing pessimistic would never write about (continuing economic disaster, worldwide resource shortage and consequent population collapse, etc.).

Just as importantly, I try to put my personality into what I write (necessary for good writing, imho). The voice I choose for this blog is forceful and authoritative to the point of arrogance, which I think makes the blog more interesting and challenging. Regardless of its presentation, what I write is an organic growth of my personality, written because it has to be. I would bet that only a small percentage of bloggers can sincerely make the same claim.
